Our history

The founders of Plast-IQ™ are three friends that have known each other for several decades. One is a plastic surgeon, one is a psychiatrist, and the last one is a businessman. Little did we know at the time of our educational graduations that this combination of professions should turn out to be an important proposition.

Around year 2000, the psychiatrist started to come across patients that, despite severe mental illness, had gained access to extensive plastic surgery – seemingly without any prior psychological assessment. The psychiatrist promptly contacted the surgeons that had carried out the interventions – airing his concerns. No reply.

This led to conversations in the friendship-group and a closer look at the existing science in the area between cosmetic surgery and psychiatry. Relatively little research exists in this area, but almost every scientific article on the topic concludes that reliable psychological pre-screening is missing and needed. Our own experience – based on speaking to cosmetic surgeons, patients, etc. – confirmed what science had long concluded and was asking for here.

Based on that, Plast-IQ was born.
